FTA audit readiness

Ready for an FTA tax audit.

The Federal Tax Authority can audit a business under the Tax Procedures Law. An audit goes well when the records exist, can be found, and show what was held and when. Here is what to have ready.

Start free with Comply About Vault
  1. 1

Keep the records for as long as the law requires

    • Corporate Tax: records and documents for seven years after the end of the tax period.
    • VAT: tax records generally for at least five years, and longer for some real estate records.
    • Keep the source documents, not only the figures: invoices, contracts, bank records and the workings behind each return.

Vault: records kept for their retention period

  2. 2

Be able to trace every figure

An auditor asks where a number on a return came from. Each figure should lead back to the document it was taken from.

Ledger: every figure traced to its page

  3. 3

    Free zone companies: show substance

A Qualifying Free Zone Person must show adequate substance in the free zone (Article 18): its core income-generating activities, people and premises there. Keep the evidence: leases, payroll, board minutes and activity records.

    Free zone rules and tax

  4. 4

Related parties: show arm's length pricing

Transactions with related parties and connected persons must follow the arm's length principle (Article 34). Keep the agreements and the basis for the prices.

  5. 5

    Link evidence to each obligation

When each document is attached to the obligation it satisfies, you can answer an auditor's request directly instead of searching inboxes.

    Comply: evidence linked to obligations

A general guide, not legal or tax advice. Rules and fees change; check the current position with the authority or an adviser before you act.
